Crews Focus on Next Weather Event

Varying Precipitation Types Expected to be Followed by Deep Cold

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (Jan. 17, 2024)  After a five day stretch of pretreating and treating the late weekend weather event, additional winter weather is in the short term forecast. Crews in District 4 counties are prepared to address issues brought on by potential snow, sleet and freezing rain through Friday.

The setup of this weather event is different from the previous one. Any snow accumulation is expected to be heavier and wetter at the onset and may be preceded by rain or a wintery mix across portions of the district. With warmer conditions Thursday, followed by another drop in temperatures into the weekend, crews will work accordingly across the district to maximize effectiveness. Forecasts are essential to planning of proper treatment and timing of application.

Traffic impacts may vary over short distances late Thursday through Friday with correlated precipitation types. Motorists should be weather-aware and monitor road conditions ahead of travel. Visit snowky.ky.gov for valuable driving tips, preparation checklists and current road condition information.

District 4 is comprised of Breckinridge, Grayson, Green, Hardin, Hart, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson, Taylor and Washington Counties.
