ALERT: U.S. 45 Temporarily Closed at 1.1mm in Fulton Due to Large Pothole in Railroad Overpass
Engineers to check bridge structure Wednesday
PADUCAH, Ky. (January 9, 2024) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has closed a section of U.S. 45/North Highland Drive in the City of Fulton due to a large pothole in the deck of a railroad overpass.
This closure is along U.S. 45/North Highland Drive at mile point 1.1 between Deere Street and College Street - about 3/10ths of a mile east of the KY 166 intersection.
There is no marked detour. Trucks should self-detour via the Purchase Parkway between Exit 1 and Exit 2 in Fulton.
This evening, the City of Fulton reported a large hole had developed in the bridge deck. The overpass was immediately closed to all traffic. It will remain closed until engineers can examine the bridge to develop a repair plan.
It is likely the overpass will be closed for several days.
The overpass carries U.S. 45 over the Canadian National rail line near the railroad’s Fulton Yard. A similar issue developed with the overpass in November with temporary repairs completed in a day and a more permanent repair completed in about a week.
KYTC District 1 will provide appropriate updates as new information becomes available.
