State Salt Truck, Plow Crews in Northeast Kentucky Ready for Approaching Winter Storm
Crews will report at 5 a.m. Saturday
FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (5:30 PM Jan. 5, 2024) – State snow plow crews in northeast Kentucky will report for duty before dawn Saturday morning ahead of an approaching winter storm.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Bath, Elliott, Fleming, Lewis, Mason, Nicholas, Rowan, and other counties beginning about 3 a.m. Saturday, calling for a wintry mix and possibilities of accumulating snow that could affect travel, especially north of I-64 and along the Ohio River.
Kentucky Department of Highways District 9 crews in those counties, as well as in Carter, Greenup, and Boyd, will report for duty at 5 a.m. -- or before if needed -- and have salt trucks and snow plows ready to roll. Crews will treat and plow roads as needed throughout the day.
With lows around 29 degrees before dawn and scattered wintry mix conditions expected across the region, slushy and slick roads will be possible.
Motorists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel or use caution if out -- slow down, eliminate distractions, keep safe braking distance between vehicles, and be careful around bridges and cold spots that can freeze before roadways.
Keep up with conditions by following forecasts and check traffic to "know before you go" by visiting GoKY.ky.gov in Kentucky or via the Waze app.
