Traffic Switch on KY 3076 (Mineola Pike) in Boone County to Begin Saturday, Dec. 16

Diversion will be in place through Summer 2024

COVINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 14, 2023) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 6 Office advises motorists of a traffic diversion on KY 3076 (Mineola Pike) in Boone County beginning Saturday, Dec. 16.

Traffic will transition to the newly paved western portion of the Mineola Pike improvement project on Saturday at 1 p.m. The traffic switch will be on Mineola Pike between Olympic Boulevard (mile point 0.818) and KY 236 (Donaldson Highway) (mile point 0.002). The traffic switch will have one lane in each direction, with shoulders on each side. Signals will be adjusted to line up with the new traffic configuration. Access to businesses, and county/city roads will be maintained.

The diversion will allow crews to work on the easternmost lanes of the project over the winter, with a majority of the work focusing on waterline relocation, and placement of fill material. In spring, as temperatures rise, subgrade construction and asphalt placement will resume.

This traffic pattern will be in place through Summer 2024.

This traffic diversion is part of the ongoing Mineola Pike improvement project which began in August 2022. The project, from KY 236 (Donaldson Highway) to I-275, will widen the one-mile road to five lanes with a curb and gutter. A sidewalk will be constructed on the south side of the road, and a ten-foot-wide multi-use path will be created for bicyclists and pedestrians.

“This project will greatly improve mobility and provide a better connection to I-275," said Bob Yeager, Chief District Engineer of KYTC’s District 6 office, “With these improvements, it will be a much safer route.”

Motorists should watch for crews and equipment in the work zone. Exercise caution when traveling near the work zone: slow down, avoid distractions, and watch for workers.

The $10.4 million project was award to Eaton Asphalt Paving Co., Inc, of Walton, KY. Leaders anticipate the project to be completed by Summer 2024.
