KY 236 (Donaldson Highway) Widening and Safety Improvement Project in Boone/Kenton Counties to Begin Monday, Feb. 27

UPDATE: Various overnight lane closures for traffic signal installation at KY 842 (Houston Road)

UPDATE (Nov. 9, 2023) -- Crews will be installing a new traffic signal at the intersection of KY 842 (Houston Road) and KY 236 (Donaldson Highway) (0.774 mile point) on Monday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. Motorists should expect single lane closures near/through the intersection. Flaggers may also be needed at various times. Work is expected to be completed by Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 6 a.m.

The new traffic signal will improve traffic flow/efficiency through the corridor.

Signage will be in place before the intersection to warn motorists of the upcoming road work, and the new traffic phasing through the intersection.

COVINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 24, 2023) – A widening and safety improvement project on KY 236 (Donaldson Highway) between KY 842 (Houston Road) and KY 3076 (Mineola Pike) (mile markers 0.1 to 1.6) will begin on Monday, March 6.

Staging along the project parameters will begin Monday, Feb. 27, a week in advance of construction.

The project will widen the 2-mile stretch of road to five lanes with curb and gutter, including two through-lanes in each direction with a center turn lane. A sidewalk and multiuse path also will be added.

“Currently Donaldson Highway experiences bouts of congestion from several businesses, schools, residentials and commercial development in the area.” said Bob Yeager, Chief District Engineer of KYTC’s District 6 Office. “This project will help mitigate congestion, provide better access for pedestrians and overall improve safety,” he said.

Motorists should expect traffic impacts during different phases of construction within the project limits. KYTC District 6 social media accounts and website will be updated as updates are received from project personnel. The public will also be notified in advance by message boards of potential impacts.

Motorists should watch for crews and equipment in the work zone.

The $33.2 million project was awarded to Riegler Blacktop of Florence, KY. The project has a completion date of September 2025.
