Glendale Mobility Study Released
Outlines alternatives to support Blue Oval/SK battery plants, protect unique character of Glendale community
ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (Oct. 19, 2023) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has completed a traffic mobility study aimed at supporting the Blue Oval/SK battery plants, the largest economic development project in Kentucky history, while protecting and preserving the unique character of the community of Glendale.
Four alternatives were analyzed. One of the four would be a new bypass northeast of Glendale. It is identified in the study as Concept A and has emerged as the study’s highest priority. It would route traffic to and from Blue Oval/SK along Kentucky Routes 222 (Glendale-Hodgenville Road) and 1136 (New Glendale Road) without having to go into the town, where the two routes intersect. The study recommends that the cabinet begin preliminary design of Concept A.
A second alternative, Concept C in the study, would include construction of a new interchange with Interstate 65 at KY 1136. The study recommends that the cabinet also begin preliminary design and environmental work for Concept C, should an interchange later be needed.
Two other alternatives, Concepts B and D, were not recommended.
Concept B, a northwest Glendale bypass, was met with substantial public opposition largely related to the potential for residential relocations.
Concept D would entail a new interchange with the Western Kentucky Parkway at KY 222.
The Glendale Mobility Study is available at www.glendalestudy.com, including maps of each concept.
