Paving Work Along KY 313 in Hardin County Begins This Week

Chip seal will be followed by thinlay between US 31W and KY 361

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (Sep. 10, 2023)  Work begins Monday on a paving project along KY 313 in Hardin County between US 31W and KY 361. After milling operations on Monday, a chip seal treatment will be applied mid-week. Motorists should be aware as the chip seal cures, they will be temporarily driving on a surface containing fine-loose gravel until the final phase of the project is complete. It is vital motorists pay attention to work zone signs and reduce speed as pavement type transitions from asphalt to chip seal. The final phase will consist of a thin layer application of asphalt which will be applied within about a week.

Projects like this are often given consideration versus full rehabilitation. With reduced resurfacing budgets, these methods prolong pavement life and quality at reduced cost. When finished, the chip seal and thinlay will provide an extended lifespan for a stretch of road which would otherwise be in need of complete resurfacing within the next few years. A similar application was applied last year along a section of KY 313 in Meade County.

Flaggers may be present when crews are working. Short delays may be possible.

The project schedule will be impacted by any unfavorable weather conditions.
