UPDATE:  Work Zone Traffic Restrictions along KY 305 at I-24 Paducah Exit 3 Extended Through July

Current traffic configuration for KY 305 in place until July 10

PADUCAH, Ky. (June 22, 2023) — Construction activity along KY 305/Cairo Road at the Interstate 24 Paducah Exit 3 interchange is expected to continue through the month of July.  For now, the current traffic configuration along KY 305/Cairo Road through the interchange will remain in place until about July 10.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 1 engineers indicated the scope of the project broadened when more excavation work was required than expected. There are still a couple of sections of the shoulder area that need to be excavated before the existing pavement can be replaced with concrete.

The I-24 Exit 3 project is being extended to the end of July.  Once a few remaining sections of concrete can be completed along KY 305/Cairo Road, the contactor will start on the ramps.  The ramp work is expected to start around July 10.  More information will be provided once a specific start date for the ramp work is set.

Left turns continue to be prohibited at the I-24 Exit 3 ramp ends at KY 305/Cairo Road.  That requires vehicles seeking to make a left turn at the entry or exit ramps to travel through the work zone, find a safe place to turn around, then return in the opposite direction to reach their destination or make the desired turn.

NO U-TURN signs have been posted at each end of the work zone with an enhanced police presence.

Both passenger vehicles and SEMI trucks have attempted to make U-Turns at the end of the work zone.  This has caused traffic to slow and stop, creating traffic back-ups, particularly during peak travel periods.  U-TURNS are not allowed in this work zone.

Motorists traveling along KY 305/Cairo Road through the interchange should use appropriate caution.  Motorists should be alert for trucks hauling material out of and into the work site.

Please see attached map for the traffic flow plan for I-24 Paducah Exit 3.

The traffic control in this work zone is set up to assure the safety of workers, the safety of the driving public, and maintain access to businesses around the I-24 Paducah Exit 3 Interchange.

The target completion date is extended to July 28, 2023.

KYTC District 1 will attempt to provide timely updates as work progresses.

A video of ongoing work is posted on the KYTC District 1 Facebook page listed below.
