Campbellsville Bypass Opening Set

The New Route Will Relieve Thru Traffic Along US 68

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (Jun. 5, 2023)  Opening of the now complete Representative John “Bam” Carney Memorial Highway is set for 9am Tuesday, connecting original KY 55 on the southeast side of Campbellsville to US 68 on the northeast side of town.

The route (which is also referred to as the Campbellsville Bypass) is aimed at relieving through-town pressures along US 68, especially commercial truck traffic, resulting in improved safety, mobility and travel efficiency.

Comprised of two separate projects, the first connects original KY 55 to KY 70. Project two connects KY 70 to US 68. The first project was contracted in September of 2019 and opened in May of 2022 at a construction cost of $16.8 million. Project two was contracted in December of 2020 at a cost of $9.1 million ahead of Tuesday’s opening.

The bypass is a vital piece of a larger regional solution. It originated in the early-mid 2000s as part of the Heartland Parkway concept which connects the east-west corridors of the Cumberland Expressway and Bluegrass Parkway.

As traffic begins flowing on the new route, drivers are advised use additional caution at intersections, entrances and exits as they become familiar with the road.
