Bridge on KY 98 in Allen County Temporarily Closed
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (March 23, 2023) – The bridge over Barren River Lake on KY 98 near mile point 8.7 in Allen County is temporarily closed due to minor structural damage. A detour using KY 671 and KY 100 is in place.
The detour is expected to last up to two weeks until the bridge is repaired. Motorists should be prepared for longer travel times with the detour.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet bridge inspectors were notified of a possible structure issue with the bridge earlier today. A team of inspectors was dispatched to survey the bridge. Upon inspection, multiple locations of damage were discovered on the bridge deck. Out of caution the inspectors temporarily closed the bridge until repairs can be made.
The bridge inspectors noted these types of structural issues are common and just byproducts of an aging structure. Bridges are fully inspected every two years unless bridge inspectors determine a bridge should be inspected more frequently.
