District 9 Road Report: State Highway Work Zones for This Week, Oct. 3-8
Temporary lane, road closures scheduled in NE Kentucky counties
FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Oct. 2, 2022) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet reminds motorists to watch for lane closures, delays, and traffic changes across the Commonwealth this week and throughout construction season.

The following major work zones and traffic changes on state highways in northeast Kentucky are being reported for the Oct. 3-8 work week:
BATH COUNTY

KY 36: Blacktopping KY 36 from the KY 3290-Mudlick Road intersection (milepoint 20.5) at Olympia Springs to the US 60 intersection (milepoint 11.8) in downtown Owingsville. Expect flagged traffic, and delays.
BOYD COUNTY

I-64: Work is wrapping up on I-64 renovations, including guardrail, drainage, and pavement repairs between the Cannonsburg and Catlettsburg exits (mile markers 184 to 191). One-lane traffic each direction. Approaching the work zone, merge left as the right lane is closed. Traffic entering the interstate must yield. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

US 60 (Coalton to Cannonsburg): Construction on US 60 between I-64 at Coalton and the Cannonsburg intersection. One-lane, with temporary signals Oct. 3-8, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., in the Princess area for cross drain work. Watch for lane shifts, intermittent flagged traffic, narrow travel lanes, and speed limit changes. Minor blasting is taking place noon to 3 p.m. daily as needed. Expect delays.

KY 1945 (Jacks Fork): Blacktop patching Jacks Fork closed about a mile north of Bolts Fork (KY 773) at site of culvert replacement. One-lane traffic, flaggers.

KY 1937 (Bear Creek): Blacktop paving on Bear Creek between the Lawrence County line (milepoint 0) and Blue Ribbon Drive (milepoint 4.1). One-lane traffic, flaggers.

Paving on KY 3294, KY 168, KY 3, KY 757: Contractors will patch KY 3294 at eight locations between Cannonsburg and Shopes Creek (milepoints 0-3.7) for a total of 2,700 feet of new blacktop; patch KY 168-South Belmont at West Grove/Thornwell (mile marker 4) in Ashland with 264 feet of new blacktop; patch KY 3 at three locations north of Trace Road (milepoints 4.8-6.1) with 1,320 feet of new blacktop; and patch KY 757-Whites Creek at four locations on the US 23 end (milepoints 4.1-6.2) for a total of 1,950 feet of new blacktop. One-lane, flagged traffic when and where crews are working.
CARTER COUNTY

KY 7/KY 1 (Carol Malone Boulevard): A widening project along 1.5 miles of KY 7/KY 1 at downtown Grayson has all traffic shifted into a new three-lane configuration – one lane each direction with a center turn lane. Approaching the work zone, traffic will merge into a single thru lane between Academic Parkway and the Little Sandy River. Side streets and entrances along south side of highway could be closed at times. Use caution. Speed limit reduced to 25 miles per hour.

US 60 East of Grayson: Ditching, culvert, shoulder work, and pavement repairs ongoing along five miles of US 60 east in Carter County from Wilson Creek Road (milepoint 30) to nearly the Boyd-Carter county line (milepoint 34.8). One-lane, flagged traffic in work areas through fall.

I-64 West of Grayson: Contractors patching blacktop along I-64 from the Rowan County line to Grayson, mile markers 148 to 170. One-lane traffic in work zones. Motorists should watch for new lane closures, merging traffic, and other changes in different areas each day through early October.

US 60 West of Grayson: Closed 8-4 Tuesday, Oct. 4, about halfway to Olive Hill in between the Fontana Drive intersections (at milepoint 17.9) for pipe replacement. Use I-64, Grayson to Olive Hill exits, to reroute. No thru traffic on Fontana Drive.

KY 207 South of US 60: Closed 8-4 Wednesday on the south side of the US 60 intersection in eastern Carter County (milepoint 2.2) for pipe replacement. Detour along Williams Creek using KY 1654 and KY 854 through Norton Branch and Rush.
FLEMING COUNTY

KY 801: Watch for paving operations near Sharkey. One-lane traffic, controlled by flaggers. Expect delays.
LEWIS COUNTY

AA Highway (KY 9): Intermittent flagged traffic from the Mason County line through Tollesboro for final striping, guardrail, and other work as part of a paving project. Use caution, expect delays.

Commonwealth Road at AA (KY 9): The AA Highway entrance to Commonwealth Road is closed because of an adjacent business construction project. Use the nearby Lions Lane (KY 2523) entrance.
MASON COUNTY

KY 10 at Kennedy Creek Road: Contractors rebuilding bridge near Maysville. Expect lane closures, temporary signals for all traffic. Expect delays.

AA Highway (KY 9): Paving, repairs between Germantown and the Bracken County line. Watch for one-lane, flagged traffic. Expect lengthy delays.
ROWAN COUNTY

KY 519: Resurfacing on about two miles of KY 519 (West Liberty Road) from the Morgan-Rowan county line north to near KY 801. Watch for one-lane, flagged traffic, and delays.

KY 377 at Cimmaron Road: Occasional intersection traffic changes, flagged traffic possible for bridge construction on Cimmaron Road. Use caution.

KY 32 (near I-64): A private contractor is working on KY 32 westbound (outbound from Morehead) at the Kroger shopping center intersection. Lane closures, flagged traffic possible.
Motorists should also watch for lane closures and flagged traffic where crews are performing daily maintenance activities such as paint striping, pothole patching, ditching, mowing, and other roadway repairs in District 9’s service area of Bath, Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Greenup, Lewis, Mason, Nicholas and Rowan counties.
Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
WORK ZONE TIPS
- Slow down, buckle up, and expect the unexpected.
- Stay alert, and avoid distractions.
- Don’t tailgate. Keep a safe braking distance between you and the vehicle ahead, and between construction workers and equipment.
- Obey road crew flaggers, and pay attention to message boards and warning signs.
