Historic KY 8 Truss Bridge Rehab Project Timeline Extended to Late October
Inclement weather causes further delay
COVINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 13, 2022) – Rehabilitation of the historic truss bridge on KY 8 (Mary Ingalls Highway) in Campbell County has a revised estimated completion timeline of late October. The project has been slowed by inclement weather and flooding.
“Completion dates are targets, but unforeseeable impacts, like weather, can delay crew activities,” Said Chief District Engineer Bob Yeager. “Completing this project remains a priority and we thank the public for their patience as we work to wrap up the project this fall.”
The bridge was built in 1946 and crosses Twelvemile Creek (Mile Marker 18). The $2.1 million project includes blast cleaning all structural steel and covering all surfaces with a three-coat paint system. Approaches and the bridge deck were replaced.
The bridge was closed on Jan. 4. Motorists should continue to follow the signed detour by taking KY 8 to KY 1996 (New Richmond Road) to KY 9 (AA Highway) to KY 547 (4 Mile Road) to KY 8.
