Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 2 Traffic Impact Report for September 5 - 11

The District 2 area serves Caldwell, Christian, Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, Hopkins, McLean, Muhlenberg, Ohio, Union, and Webster Counties

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 5, 2022) –  KYTC District 2 anticipates the following locations will impact traffic the week of September 5 - 11.

Christian County

  • Oversized vehicles traveling in Christian County between the Rest Area at MP 92 to Exit 86/US 41-A will need to seek alternate routes until further notice. Over-sized vehicles are alerted to the 10.5' width restriction for BOTH Eastbound and Westbound directions. The repair work on I-24 Westbound continues to be reduced to one-lane from the Rest Area at MP 92 to  Exit 86/US 41-A for the reconstruction of the westbound inside shoulder. Completion of this project is scheduled for fall 2022.
  • The closure of Walnut Street (US 41-A) at the Walnut Street Bridge over the CSX railroad began Wednesday, May 11. Since that time, the contractor for the project has removed the existing bridge and moved forward with completion of the north abutment. Located in Hopkinsville, the structure is 475 ft. northeast of east 21st. Street. The new structure will have two lanes and a pedestrian sidewalk on the east side of the bridge. A signed detour remains in place to assist all motorists, but KYTC wants to emphasize the importance of the detour for commercial truck traffic. The detour provides state routes that can accommodate such vehicle dimensions. The detour will utilize KY 380 (Skyline Drive) and US 41(9th Street) for access by trucks requiring larger turning radii. The scheduled completion date for this project is fall of 2022.

Daviess County

  • Beginning Tuesday, August 2, motorists should anticipate a lane restriction on US 231/ Hartford-Owensboro Road to accommodate a bridge deck overlay (MP 8.95). A second bridge deck overlay adjacent to the previous structure (MP 8.84) Panther Creek Bridge will be addressed as well. KY 298 between the two bridges (MP 5.26) will be closed while this work is done. In addition to the lane restriction, temporary signals will be installed while this work is addressed to facilitate vehicular movement. Motorists should be prepared for stop conditions. Maximum lane width is 11'. KYTC asks motorists to be aware of the work zone, expect delays, and to utilize safe driving habits when traveling through the area.

Hancock County

  • Motorists in Hancock County can anticipate the construction of a walking path along the North side of KY 657. The work began today and is scheduled for completion on Friday, August 5. A daily lane restriction will be in place on KY 657 between US 60 and KY 334. The work will be addressed from 7:00 am through 5:00 pm. This work has been completed.
