Pavement rehabilitation project set to begin on Mountain Parkway in Wolfe County

Lane closures planned, drivers should watch for slow moving trucks

JACKSON, Ky. A $7.3 million pavement rehabilitation project is scheduled to begin this week on the Bert T. Combs Mountain Parkway in Wolfe County. This will result in lane closures and some changing traffic patterns as the work progresses. The project stretches from milepoint 36.0 near the Powell-Wolfe county line to milepoint 45.8, at the end of the four-lane segment of the road near Exit 46 east of Campton.

Starting Friday, Aug. 19, the right lane of the eastbound carriageway of the road will be closed beginning at milepoint 35.5, on Slade Hill in Powell County west of the Wolfe County line. This means that drivers should be alert for slow moving trucks climbing Slade Hill eastbound merging into the single open lane.

After base failures are repaired in the right lane of the project area, a traffic pattern shift will occur and the left eastbound lane will be closed. Lane closures can also be expected in the westbound lanes as the project continues.

Signs and electronic message boards will be in place to inform drivers of lane closures.

A reduced speed limit of 55 mph will be enforced in the work zone, and double fines for infractions will be in place. The project has a scheduled completion date of Nov. 1.
