I-64/I-65/1-71 Interchange (Spaghetti Junction): I-65 South is closed as motorists enter Kentucky from the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge. Motorists will be diverted at mile marker 136.5 onto the ramp for Jefferson Street where they will be able to merge back onto I-65 South, just north of an area known locally as “Hospital Curve.” Drivers will not have to exit onto surface streets.
At these additional locations within the Kennedy interchange, weekday lane and ramp closures are possible from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and weekend lane and ramp closures are possible from 7 p.m. on Fridays to 6 a.m. on Mondays:
- I-64 East ramp to I-65 North for the Abraham Lincoln Bridge.
- I-64 East at the I-65 South overpass at mile point 5.4.
- I-65 North ramp to I-64 West.
- I-65 South ramp to I-64 East and I-71 North.
Shoulder closures will be permitted at any time within the construction zone. Lane closures are also possible under the interchange on East Witherspoon Street in downtown Louisville. All the closures are to repair a bridge on I-65 South within the interchange that was structurally damaged when a coil of steel fell off a semitrailer in March 2022. The repairs include replacing some of the bridge’s beams and its deck, or driving surface. The construction is expected to be completed by fall 2022.
I-65 South: The on-ramp from First Street, between Liberty and Chestnut streets, will be closed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, in downtown Louisville. Signs in the area will notify motorists of the closures. The next ramp for access to I-65 South is one block south on First Street. The closure is for overhead lighting repairs and pole setting.
I-71: Nightly lane closures and delays possible in the northbound lanes from mile marker 3.7, near the bridge over Blankenbaker Lane, to mile marker 9, near the I-265 interchange, and in the southbound lanes from mile marker 8, just past the interchange, to mile marker 3.7 for asphalt paving. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2022.
I-264 (Watterson Expressway): The on-ramp from northbound Dixie Highway (U.S. 31W) to I-264 West will be closed from 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, to 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 15. A contractor will be installing a high-friction surface treatment on the ramp. Motorists should follow this posted detour: From northbound Dixie Highway, take I-264 East to Exit 9 for Taylor Boulevard (KY 1865), then go north on Taylor Boulevard to the ramp for I-264 West.
I-264 (Watterson Expressway): The left two lanes of I-264 West will be closed from 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, through 12 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, as motorists approach Exit 20 for U.S. 60 (Shelbyville Road) in St. Matthews. Motorists will be diverted onto the collector-distributor ramp for Interstate 64, where they can merge back onto I-264 near Breckenridge Lane. Drivers will not have to exit onto I-64 or U.S. 60. A contractor will be repairing concrete slabs.
I-264 (Watterson Expressway): The right and center lanes of I-264 West will be closed from 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, through 12 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, at mile marker 16.6. That’s just past Exits 17A and B for KY 155 (Taylorsville Road). The on-ramp from KY 155 to I-264 West will remain open. A contractor will be repairing concrete slabs.
I-265 South (Gene Snyder Freeway): Left lane on the exit ramp to Westport Road and Chamberlain Lane (exit 32) is closed. Daytime lane closures and delays are possible from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Westport Road (KY 1447) under the I-265 overpass at mile point 6.7. Contractor repairing the overpass bridge struck by a vehicle. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2022.
U.S. 31E (Buechel Bypass): Right lane of the bridge closed over the Norfolk Southern Railroad (mile point 10.4) due to findings from a routine inspection in 2021. It’s not an active construction zone, and the affected area isn’t visible while driving over the bridge. KYTC has signed an agreement with the railroad, and a contract has been awarded to perform repairs.
U.S. 31E (Baxter Avenue): The bridge carrying traffic over South Fork, a branch of Beargrass Creek, is closed for repairs. Posted detour: Cooper Street to Payne Street to Lexington Road to East Liberty Street and vice versa. The project is expected to be completed in late summer or early fall 2022.
KY 146 (New LaGrange Road): Nightly lane closures possible from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. from U.S. 60 (Shelbyville Road) at mile point 0.017 to Whipps Mill Road at mile point 2.565 for milling and asphalt resurfacing. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2022.
KY 1450 (Blue Lick Road): Weekday lane closures are possible on Blue Lick Road between Gene Snyder and Preston Highway for road widening work. The project is expected to be completed in summer 2023.
KY 1703 (Baxter Avenue): Closed from 7 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, between Tyler Park Drive and Castlewood Avenue as part of a rehabilitation of Tyler Park bridge. Motorists should follow this posted detour: Eastern Parkway to Bardstown Road to Grinstead Drive and vice versa. The rehabilitation project is scheduled to be completed in fall 2022.
Jefferson County (Various Locations): Nightly lane closures and delays are possible while crews perform striping and pavement marker work in a mobile operation between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Motorists should provide plenty of space to crews displaying “WET PAINT” signage and be observant of slowed vehicles while moving through the work zone.
