‘Singing Bridge’ Inspection Set for Tomorrow

in Franklin County

Work will require the bridge to be closed to motorists

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Aug. 9, 2022) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of the upcoming inspection of the “Singing Bridge,” a span that carries U.S. 60X over the Kentucky River, in downtown Frankfort.

The bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow, Aug. 10. Motorists should utilize the Capital Avenue (U.S. 60) bridge to cross the river. The sidewalks on the Singing Bridge will remain open to pedestrians.

King Bridge Co. of Cleveland constructed the steel thru truss structure in 1894. It gets its name from the humming noise created by vehicles traveling across its steel grate deck. KYTC engineers inspect the bridge annually.

Motorists should heed signage, use caution and expect delays while traveling through the work zone. The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Visit goky.ky.gov for the latest in traffic and travel information in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
