UPDATE: Dewey Lake Level Affecting State Highways in Floyd County

Water down on KY 302; KY 194, others impassable

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (Aug. 4, 2022) -- Dewey Lake water levels have fallen some, uncovering KY 302 around the lake, but KY 194 and other nearby roadways in Floyd County remain impassable due to high water.

As of Thursday morning, Aug. 4, the following impacts have been reported:

  • KY 194 (German Bridge area) is impassable
  • KY 302 around the lake now passable
  • The road leading to May Lodge is impassable
  • All boat ramps are not usable at this time

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers had kept water gates at minimum flow due to downstream flooding, but are beginning to let more water out of the lake. That's expected to reduce flood impacts on area roadways over the next few days.

Throughout the region, Kentucky Department of Highways District 12 crews remain focused on emergency clearance of roads to make them passable for residents and emergency responders. Debris could remain on roadway shoulders or roads could be one-lane in spots.
