Public Meeting Will Gather Input and Feedback
for KY 1136 in Hardin County
Alternatives to be Presented for Addressing Transportation Needs for the Industrial Area
ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (Jul. 29, 2022) – Members of the community have an opportunity to help plan for the future by offering input and feedback on improvements of KY 1136 just south of Glendale. A public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 11th from 5pm - 7pm at the Old East Hardin Middle School Gym in Glendale. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will present alternatives for improving KY 1136 from the southern US 31W intersection to the KY 1868 intersection along the south boundary of the Blue Oval/SK building site.
Project Purpose and Need: The Blue Oval/SK plant being constructed in Glendale will place increased demand on the transportation network of the surrounding area. The property's main entrance is along KY 222. An entrance along KY 1136 is desired to help relieve some of that demand. Currently, KY 1136 has varying pavement widths of around 18 feet with no shoulders and does not allow any truck traffic. The most recent traffic count (2018) tallied 132 vehicles per day. It has edge lines but not enough width for a centerline stripe. The stretch of road contains several horizontal and vertical deficiencies and has a statutory speed limit of 55mph. Widening the roadway and improving geometrics addresses all these concerns -- Improving safety, mobility and capacity along with providing access to Blue Oval/SK’s plant from the south.
At the August 11th meeting, representatives from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will be on hand to gather feedback and address questions and concerns. The address for Old East Hardin Middle School is 129 College Street, Glendale, KY.
After August 11th, meeting materials will be available on the KYTC District 4 website for review.
