UPDATE: All Lanes of I-24 Blocked Due Multi-Vehicle Crash at 42mm in Lyon County

Estimated duration is about 3 hours or approximately 12:30 a.m., CDT

PADUCAH, Ky. (July 17, 2022) All lanes of Interstate 24 continue to be blocked near the 42-mile marker in Lyon County.

This is along I-24 westbound between the KY 293 Eddyville-Princeton Exit 45 Interchange near the I-24/ I-69 Exit 42 Interchange.

The initial crash at this site involved a SEMI and a couple of passenger vehicles.  The SEMI was pulling a tanker loaded with hydrofluoric acid.  During the crash, the tanker separated from the tractor rig and rolled down an embankment into a ditch.

The tanker is not leaking.  However, due to the hazardous cargo, all lanes of I-24 had to be blocked at the crash site while the trailer is uprighted and removed.

Rigging for the trailer recovery has just been completed.  Recovery efforts are starting.

Eastbound traffic is being detoured via Interstate 69 Northbound at the Exit 42 Interchange.  Passenger vehicles should detour to KY 91 south at Princeton to reach the Pennyrile Parkway at Hopkinsville to return to I-24 at Exit 81 Interchange.

Truck traffic should continue Northward on I-69 to take the Pennyrile Parkway southbound to reach I-24 eastbound at the Exit 81 Interchange.

Motorists should be alert for heavy traffic along the 2-lane sections of the detour routes.

Estimated duration is 3 hours or approximately 12:30 a.m., CDT.

Updates as new information becomes available.
