WEEKLY UPDATE: Kennedy Interchange Construction Schedule
Contractor repairing roadway bridge damaged after semitrailer lost load
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 20, 2022) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) updates motorists on the scheduled lane, ramp and shoulder closures for interstates 64, 65 and 71 at the Kennedy interchange.
The following closures will occur overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.:
- Monday, June 20: Total closure of I-64 West ramp from I-65 North. The right lane will be closed on the I-64 East \ I-71 North exit from I-65 South.
- Tuesday, June 21: Total closure of the I-65 North ramp from I-64 East and two left lanes of I-64 East.
- Wednesday, June 22: I-65 North ramp from I-64 East will be closed as well as the two left lanes of I-64 East.
- Thursday, June 23: I-65 North ramp from I-64 East will be closed as well as the two left lanes of I-64 East.
There may also be intermittent shoulder closures on I-64 East, I-71 North and I-65 South within the interchange. The left lane of I-65 South remains closed at mile marker 136, just south of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge. Motorists should use caution while moving through the work zone or seek an alternate route.
All the closures are to repair a bridge on I-65 South within the Kennedy interchange that was structurally damaged when a coil of steel fell off a semitrailer in March. The repairs include replacing some of the bridge’s beams and its deck, or driving surface. The repairs are expected to be completed this fall.
The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
