KY 131/Said Road to Remain Closed near McCracken-Graves County Line Through June 10

Culvert replacement project extended due to rain in forecast this week

PADUCAH, Ky. (May 23, 2022)  The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has determined that KY 131/Said Road in McCracken County will likely remain closed at the site of a culvert replacement project through Friday, June 10, 2022.

This extended closure of KY 131/Said Road is to allow a culvert to be replaced at McCracken County mile point 0.59, just north of the McCracken-Graves County Line.  This is along KY 131 between Symsonia and Reidland.

Substantial rainfall expected on Wednesday will force a contractor to delay assembly of the pre-fab aluminum arch culvert until after Memorial Day.  That assembly process will take several days.  With the time required to backfill the excavation, the anticipated completion date of the project will have to be extended approximately one week.  That will move the target completion date to Friday, June 10.

While the roadway between Symsonia and Reidland remains closed to traffic, the KYTC McCracken County Highway Maintenance Crew plans additional maintenance activities along this section of KY 131/Said Road.  Residents along the closed section of KY 131 should be alert for brush cutting equipment working along the roadway, equipment and personnel involved in other maintenance activities, as well as trucks hauling materials for the culvert replacement project.

There is no marked detour for this site.  However, passenger vehicles may self-detour via KY 450/Oaks Road and KY 3075/Sheehan Bridge Road.  Commercial trucks should travel an approved state route based on their gross weight.

Approximately 2,200 vehicles travel this section of KY 131 in an average day.

KYTC District 1 will attempt to provide timely updates as the project progresses.
