Contract Awarded for KY 1848 Safety Enhancements in Shelby County
Project includes sight-distance improvements and curve realignment
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 20, 2022) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) today announces the awarding of a contract for safety improvements on KY 1848 (Todd’s Point Road) in Shelby County.
The project extends north for about four miles from Grand Central Drive at mile point 6.4 to KY 362 (Aiken Road) at mile point 10.6. Safety improvements include ditching operations to improve drainage, adding shoulders to eliminate the current drop-offs in certain areas, new signage and a curve realignment.
Contractors are scheduled to begin work on Tuesday, May 31, by beginning the tree removal process. During construction, KY 1848 may be reduced to one lane during daytime hours. Motorists will be directed through the work zone via flaggers. Signs in the area will notify drivers of the work, but they should heed any restrictions, proceed through the construction zone with caution or seek an alternate route.
RAME Contracting LLC of Springfield, Ky., was awarded the $1.08 million contract on April 6. Construction is scheduled to be completed in the late fall of this year.
A similar safety improvement project started in February on a four-mile stretch of KY 55 from KY 1633 (Elk Creek Road) in Spencer County to KY 148 (Finchville Road) in Shelby County.
Both projects are part of the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP), a Federal Highway Administration aid program designed to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries. The HSIP requires a data-driven, strategic approach to improving highway safety.
