Lane and 12 ft. Load Width Restriction on I-24 Westbound at 28mm for Bridge Work
Work along eastbound lanes to take about 3 weeks to complete
PADUCAH, Ky. (April 16, 2022) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has established an eastbound lane and 12 ft. load width restriction on Interstate 24 near the 28 mile marker.
This eastbound work zone lane restriction at I-24 mile point 28.65 is to allow joint work and general bridge maintenance on the KY 282/Gilbertsville Highway Overpass immediately west of the Tennessee River Bridge. Initially, all eastbound traffic will move to the left-hand or passing lane in this work zone.
Eastbound motorists should be alert for slowing and merging traffic as they approach the 28 mile marker. Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers and construction personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.
This work zone includes a strictly enforced 55 mile per hour speed limit, as well as an interactive traffic management system to alert approaching vehicles to slowed or stopped traffic.
The contractor anticipates work on the eastbound bridge will take about 3 weeks to complete, weather permitting. The contractor will then move to the westbound lanes at this same site for about 3 weeks.
This section of Interstate 24 between Exit 27 and Exit 31 also carries Interstate 69. Approximately 30,300 vehicles travel this section of I-24 in an average day. There should be minimal impact to vehicles traveling on KY 282/Gilbertsville Highway beneath the overpass.
Jim Smith Contracting of Grand Rivers is the prime contractor on this bridge maintenance project.
KYTC District 1 and the contractor will attempt to provide timely updates as work progresses.
