Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 2 Traffic Impact Report for March 28 - April 3
The District 2 area serves Caldwell, Christian, Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, Hopkins, McLean, Muhlenberg, Ohio, Union, and Webster Counties
MADISONVILLE, Ky. (March 25, 2022) – KYTC District 2 anticipates the following locations will impact traffic the week of March 28 - April 3.
Christian County
- The construction of a turn lane on KY Route 115 at Pembroke Elementary School in Christian County should be complete within the next two weeks. Corrective work such as grading and reseeding still needs to be addressed at both locations .
Daviess County
- KY 2699/Goetz Drive at the intersection with South Town Boulevard in Owensboro is open to traffic. The Regional Water Resource Agency in Daviess County continues to work on the sewer system.
Hancock County
- Temporary signals have been installed on US 60 in Hancock County in preparation for northbound slide repair between mile markers 16 - 17. The repairs began on March 23 and is expected to take 5 - 6 weeks, weather permitting. A soil nail wall project will take place between KY 3199 and the Hancock/Breckinridge County line.
- Benefits of a soil nail wall compared to the traditional method of placing steel piles include the following:
- soil nailing is ideal for tight spaces
- it can be used in irregular shapes
- there is less impact on surrounding areas
- requires less work area
- reduces right-of-way requirements
- no restrictions on wall height
- provides permanent drainage, not available with other repair methods
- District 2 asks that drivers obey the traffic signals and speed limits to prevent any accidents within the work zone. School buses and emergency vehicles will be accommodated when needed. Soil nailing is a construction measure that reinforces and strengthens existing ground to treat unstable soil slopes. Rebar is installed at a slight downward direction in pre-drilled, closely spaced holes, and grouted into place with concrete. In addition, synthetic strips and perforated drainage pipes are also installed.
- Drainage is a critical component of the soil nail process. This prevents erosion and damage to the wall from water buildup in the ground. Soil nail walls have a rigid facing of shotcrete and/or soil nail head plates on the surface or a flexible reinforcing mesh held beneath the head plates against the soil face. Rabbit-proof wire mesh and environmental erosion control fabrics may be used with flexible mesh where environmental conditions dictate.
Henderson County
- Traffic on U.S. 60 near the Spottsville Bridge in Henderson County will be rerouted along a short temporary diversion that runs adjacent to U.S. 60 and began Monday, Sept. 27. The diversion will contain two lanes to facilitate two-way traffic. This traffic pattern will remain in place into the summer in order to construct the tie-in of the new U.S. 60 alignment with the existing U.S. 60 alignment. Completion is set for late summer/early fall.
