Multi-vehicle crash continues to block I-57 near Charleston, MO
UPDATE FROM MODOT
Interstate 57 continues to be blocked in both directions from I-55 to the Illinois state line due to a multi-vehicle incident.
MODOT anticipates the roadway will reopen sometime during the overnight hours, but no estimated timeline is available.
Emergency responders and crews are continuing clean-up work.
An update will be posted when the road reopens.

ADDITIONAL UPDATE for Travel from KY into MO
PADUCAH, Ky. (March 17, 2022) – A multi-vehicle traffic crash on Interstate 57 near Charleston, MO, has both directions of Interstate 57 blocked.
Police report this crash involves 55 or more vehicles. MODOT anticipates the roadway will reopen during the overnight hours. However, no estimated clearance time is available.
Some of the traffic snarls on the temporary detour routes have been reduced due to reduced traffic volume during the overnight hours.
This is to notify anyone traveling from Kentucky through Illinois into Missouri on U.S. 60 and U.S. 62 that most highways that provide an alternate route around this crash site are already snarled and are expected to remain so for hours.
Anyone heading west into Missouri from Kentucky should consider a detour via the I-155 Mississippi River Bridge at Dyersburg, or a detour through Cape Girardeau, MO, to detour westward from there.
