ALERT: Flash Flooding Reported along Area Highways in KYTC District 1

UPDATES for Paducah/McCracken County at 10:20 a.m., CST

PADUCAH, Ky. (Feb. 17, 2022)   Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 1 is advising motorists to use extra caution as flash flooding has been reported at numerous locations along area highways.  Many of these locations are in areas where flooding has not been reported in the past.

Motorists should be alert for flooded roadways due to heavy bands of rainfall moving across the region during the day.  This list is evolving:

McCracken County
U.S. 62/U.S. 45/Jackson Street is CLOSED at the RR Overpass between Joe Clifton Drive/28th Street and South 31st Street in Paducah
U.S. 60/21 Street is CLOSED west of the KY 994/Old Mayfield Rd intersection and Ohio Street
KY 1322/Lovelaceville Rd at 5.5 to 6.5mm at Massac Creek
KY 339/Clinton Rd at 6.2 to 6.4mm between Old Farm Rd and Contest Rd
KY 994/Old Mayfield Rd CLOSED at 5.5 to 5.7mm at Clear Creek near KY 1014/House Rd
KY 1014/Houser Rd at 3.2 to 3.7mm at Clear Creek near KY 994/Old Mayfield Rd
KY 1565/Mayfield-Metropolis Rd at 4.5 to 5.5mm between U.S. 60 and KY 305
KY 1438/New Hope Church Rd at 3mm West of KY 786/Mayfield-Metropolis Rd near New Hope Church

Marshall County
U.S. 641 in Marshall County between KY Dam Village State Park and Draffenville

There will likely be changes and additions at various other locations due to changing conditions throughout the day.

KYTC personnel will be placing WATER OVER ROAD signs at appropriate locations.  However, due to widespread roadway flooding during the day crews may be unable to mark all flooded roadways.  Caution is required.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a FLOOD WATCH until 6 p.m., today.  Details are here:

As little as 6 inches of moving water can push a vehicle off the roadway.

If you encounter a flooded roadway, please take note of the specific location using a nearby landmark, mile point, or crossroad and report it to your local 911 call center.

Remember:  Turn Around - Don't Drown.
