KYTC District 7 on duty for winter weather event
Ice reported in northern Scott County
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 3, 2022) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises that this news release serves as an update. Central Kentucky remains under an Ice Storm Warning which includes today and Friday.
Weather information stations across Kentucky provide data to the Transportation Operations Center in Frankfort. The TOC is staffed 24 hours per day, and distributes information to the twelve highway districts across the state.
District 7 continues to monitor weather conditions closely. Highway personnel, along with contractors, are currently patrolling and treating routes as necessary.
The 12 counties in District 7 are assessed individually. Terrain, along with air and pavement temperatures are included as factors for consideration when treating routes.
Current reports from Scott County indicate that ice is beginning to form in the northern part of the county. The ice is visible on trees and cars.
Tree damage and power outages are expected due to freezing rain. The public is advised not to drive if at all possible. Travel for this afternoon and Friday is described as difficult to impossible.
