KYTC District 7 forces prepared for ice storm and winter weather
A combination of rain, freezing rain and sleet
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 2, 2022) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises that the Central Kentucky area is under an Ice Storm Warning for Thursday and Friday. Crews have been readying equipment including trucks for plowing and salting routes. In addition, chain and pole saws along with other safety equipment will be utilized if necessary.
The first shift of personnel will report tomorrow morning with a second shift on duty at 12 p.m. Contract truck drivers (who supplement state crews) will report during the afternoon in two separate shifts.
Roadway conditions are expected to deteriorate Thursday afternoon and extend into Friday morning as inclement weather approaches Central KY. Travel for this time period is described as difficult to impossible.
Power outages and tree damage will be likely due to freezing rain. The public is strongly advised not to travel if at all possible.
