Kennedy Bridge lane closures scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 22, in Jefferson County
Lane closures will take place on I-65 South
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Dec. 21, 2021) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 5 Office advises motorists of lane closures scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 22, on the John F. Kennedy Bridge in Jefferson County.
The Kennedy has six lanes for southbound traffic on Interstate 65. The left three lanes will be closed starting at 8:30 a.m. near mile marker 137 on the Indiana approach. The right three lanes will remain open. All lanes are scheduled to reopen by 3 p.m. Northbound I-65 traffic on the adjacent Abraham Lincoln Bridge will not be affected.
The closure is to resecure expansion joint bolts installed this past summer. Expansion joints allow the bridge to expand and contract with temperature. The structural integrity of the bridge is not affected by the joint.
The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
