I-65 lane closures scheduled for next two weeks

in Jefferson County

Crews installing new LED lights between I-264 and I-265

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Dec. 3, 2021) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of multiple scheduled lane closures on a portion of Interstate 65 in Jefferson County starting on Sunday, Dec. 5. The closures are for contractors to upgrade roadway lights with energy-efficient LEDs, short for light-emitting diodes.

Starting at 7 p.m. Sunday through Dec. 12, the left lane and left shoulder of I-65 North will be closed starting at Interstate 265 (Gene Snyder Freeway) and ending at Interstate 264 (Watterson Expressway). The left shoulder of I-65 South will also be closed. These will be around-the-clock closures so crews can continuously work on the median-mounted roadway lights in this section of I-65.

From Dec. 12 through Dec. 19, the left lane and left shoulder of I-65 South will be closed between I-264 and I-265. The left shoulder of I-65 North will remain closed. These will also be around-the-clock closures.

Drivers should approach the work zone with caution. Traffic control will be in effect.

This LED upgrade is a continuation of an existing project announced at the end of 2020, which also includes replacing thousands of lower-efficiency roadway fixtures across the commonwealth by early 2022. Altogether, KYTC plans to replace more than 18,000 lights with new LEDs, which provide greater visibility while lasting longer and using less energy.

The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
