UPDATE: SEMI Truck Crash Site on I-24 Westbound near 59mm in Trigg County at 11:50 a.m., CDT
I-24 Westbound is open - Closure delayed until about 12:30 p.m.
PADUCAH, Ky. (Oct. 6, 2021) – Earlier this morning a SEMI truck blocked Interstate 24 WESTBOUND near the 59 mile marker in Trigg County.
This is along I-24 Westbound in the work zone that runs from the 65 to 55 mile marker.
The truck driver reported he had a blowout that caused him to hit the centerline barrier wall in the work zone. The crash damaged the crash-cushion at an emergency crossover and knocked some of the barrier wall sections out of alignment.
KYTC personnel and other emergency responders were able to straighten the centerline barrier wall without stopping Eastbound traffic. The one eastbound lane is now expected to remain open at the crash site.
The one Westbound lane at the crash site is now open and expected to remain open until about 12:30 p.m., CDT. At that time, the westbound lane will be closed with traffic diverted to the Pennyrile Parkway northbound at Exit 82.
The diversion of westbound traffic will allow a crew will start repairs to the centerline barrier wall. That work is expected to take about 3 hours to complete.
Again, all lanes are open in the work zone until about 12:30 p.m. Westbound traffic is expected to be diverted to the Pennyrile Parkway Northbound starting around that time to allow barrier wall repairs at the crash site.
During the diversion, westbound I-24 traffic will be directed north on the Pennyrile Parkway to follow it to Interstate 69 at Nortonville, then follow I-69 South to return to I-24 at Exit 43.
Please see the attached map for the alternate route in blue.
