Traffic Shift Completed at U.S. 62/KY 286 Intersection in West McCracken County
Reopening of KY 286 includes temporary detour for traffic on U.S. 62
PADUCAH, Ky. (Aug. 31, 2021) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has completed a traffic shift at the U.S. 62/KY 286 intersection in western McCracken County. The traffic shift that includes a temporary detour for traffic on U.S. 62 was completed about 10:30 a.m., CDT.
KY 286 has been closed between KY 726/McKendree Church Road and the U.S. 62 Y Intersection at Milan Station in western McCracken County to allow reconstruction of the intersection. KY 286 has reopened at the intersection.
Dry weather this morning allowed a paint truck to apply appropriate traffic markings to the roadway to prepare for the traffic shift.
The temporary detour for U.S. 62 is along the south end of KY 726/McKendree Church Road. Local access will be maintained for residents and property owners along the section of U.S. 62 between KY 1322/Harris Road and the existing Y intersection.
This diversion for U.S. 62 is expected to remain in place for about a month while reconstruction of the U.S. 62/KY 286 Y intersection continues. A map of the marked detour route via KY 726/McKendree Church Road is attached below.
Motorists should continue to use appropriate caution along the detour and were equipment, flaggers, and construction personnel are along the work zone in close proximity to traffic flow.
The U.S. 62/KY 286 Y intersection at Milan Station near the McCracken-Ballard County line is being reconstructed into a “T” intersection to enhance safety. The construction site is at U.S. 62 McCracken County mile point 3.269 and KY 286 mile point 2.281. Almost 5,000 vehicles travel through the intersection in an average day.
In addition to reconstruction of the U.S. 62/KY 286 Y intersection, the project includes culvert and shoulder work to enhance safety along 4.5 miles of U.S. 62 between the Y and the McCracken Boulevard traffic signal.
Weststate Construction, Inc., of Hopkinsville is the prime contractor on this $2.4 million safety project. The target completion date is October 15, 2021.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the contractor will attempt to provide timely updates as work progresses.
