Detour for KY 286 at U.S. 62/KY 286 Intersection in West McCracken County Continues Through Aug. 25

Marked detour provided via KY 726/McKendree Church Road

PADUCAH, Ky. (Aug. 19, 2021) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) plans to continue to detour traffic on KY 286 as part of the realignment of the U.S. 62/KY 286 Y intersection in western McCracken County through Wednesday, August 25, 2021.

The timeline for the detour is extended 5 days to allow for recent rain delays that held up some of the necessary grade and drain work at the new intersection.

KY 286 remains closed between KY 726/McKendree Church Road at mile point 1.398 and the existing U.S. 62 Y intersection at mile point 2.281.  East-west traffic on KY 286 has a marked detour via the south end of KY 726/McKendree Church Road.

This section of KY 286 immediately west of the U.S. 62 intersection is expected to remain closed until sometime late in the day on Wednesday, Aug. 25.

Motorists who regularly travel this section of KY 286 near the McCracken-Ballard County Line should consider an alternate route due to the likelihood of traffic congestion and delays along the detour.

The U.S. 62/KY 286 Y intersection at Milan Station near the McCracken-Ballard County line is being reconstructed into a “T” intersection.   The construction site is at U.S. 62 McCracken County mile point 3.269 and KY 286 mile point 2.281.  Almost 5,000 vehicles travel through the intersection in an average day.

In addition to reconstruction of the U.S. 62/KY 286 Y intersection, the HSIP project includes culvert and shoulder work to enhance safety along 4.5 miles of U.S. 62 between the intersection and the McCracken Boulevard traffic signal.

Weststate Construction, Inc., of Hopkinsville is the prime contractor on the $2.4 million safety project.  The target completion date is October 15, 2021.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the contractor will attempt to provide timely updates as work progresses.
