Lanes to Remain Closed on the Kennedy Bridge in Jefferson County
Lane closures needed for expansion joint repair
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 7, 2021) –The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of the continued closure of the three left lanes of the I-65 Kennedy Bridge in Louisville. A KYTC crew and bridge inspectors from a consultant engineering firm were inspecting and performing preventative maintenance work on the bridge today. During the inspection, crews found that repair work was needed on one of the expansion joints.
The lane closures, beginning at mile marker 137.1 near the Indiana approach, will be in place until further notice until a repair can be completed. Expansion joints allow the bridge to expand and contract with temperature. The structural integrity of the bridge is not affected by the joint, and lanes will remain closed to avoid damage to vehicles traveling over the bridge.
