Safety Improvements at KY 125/KY 166 Intersection in Fulton County Nearing Completion
Paving and striping of new alignment expected Wednesday
PADUCAH, KY (April 19, 2021) A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) plans work zone lane restrictions at the intersection of KY 125/Union City Highway and KY 166/Middle Road in Fulton County on Wednesday, April 21, 2020.
Motorists should be alert for a paving crew working at the KY 125/KY 166 intersection southeast of Hickman during daylight hours on Wednesday. Traffic will be restricted to one lane with alternating flow controlled by flaggers to facilitate the work.
This paving and striping work is part of an ongoing project to alter traffic flow and the alignment of the intersection to enhance safety. The new alignment will require all northbound traffic on KY 125/Union City Highway to stop at the intersection. The work will also improve the visibility of approaching traffic on KY 125.
The realignment work was completed in several phases last year by the Fulton County Highway Maintenance Crew with assistance from a contractor. Following completion of the paving and striping work at the intersection on Wednesday, temporary message boards will be in place to alert motorists to the changes in traffic flow.
This intersection is at KY 125 milepoint 1.659 and KY 166 milepoint 0.0 in Fulton County. Approximately 2,800 vehicles travel through this intersection in an average day. KY 125 connects to TN Route 5 at the Kentucky-Tennessee State Line.
The estimated cost of the improvements is $70,000.
Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and maintenance personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.
