Traffic Advisory: Next US 60 Road Closure in Rowan County Scheduled for April 19-23
Closed west of Big Perry Road, for culvert replacement
FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (April 9, 2021) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will temporarily close part of US 60 east in Rowan County for drainage repairs this month.
Beginning April 19 and continuing through about April 23, contractors will close US 60 just west of KY 799-Big Perry Road (on the Morehead side at milepoint 12.65) to excavate the highway and replace a large culvert underneath. Crews will work to reopen the road as quickly as possible, but US 60 could remain closed for up to five days.
All through traffic and commercial trucks should detour using I-64 between Morehead and Olive Hill. Local motorists should seek alternate routes such as I-64, or KY 174, KY 3318 (Open Fork), and KY 32 (Christy Creek).
The work is part of a $2.2 million federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) project along seven miles of US 60 from Bramblewood Lane to the Carter County line that will widen shoulders, remove trees and other roadside obstacles, add better drainage, signage and guardrail, improve curves, and provide new blacktop. The project is being done by Frederick and May Construction Co., Inc., under a low-bid Transportation Cabinet contract.
One other culvert replacement for the project will also require a temporary road closure. It will be announced when scheduled.
Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
