KY 1274 in Menifee County to be closed for rockfall mitigation project near Rowan County line

Drivers to use signed detour for 10 weeks

JACKSON, Ky.  – Drivers who use KY 1274 between Big Woods and the Rowan County line in Menifee County will have to find an alternate route beginning Monday, June 1. The road will be closed between mile markers 12 and 13 for 10 weeks for a rockfall mitigation project.

Local traffic will be detoured through Morgan and Rowan counties via a signed route consisting of KY 1693, KY 1950, KY 772, KY 519, and KY 801. Traffic will be maintained beyond the ends of the signed detour up to the actual closure location, but no traffic will be allowed within the project limits.

Motorists who use KY 1274 to connect with KY 801 or KY 519 in Rowan County as a through route from Frenchburg to Morehead may prefer to use an unmarked detour consisting of KY 36, KY 211 and US 60 through Salt Lick to Farmers and Morehead.

The road is expected to reopen on Monday, Aug. 9.
