Kentucky’s
Marc A. Guilfoil presented ARCI Len Foote Award
FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 11, 2018) - Marc A. Guilfoil,
executive director of the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission, has been honored
with the Len Foote Award from the Association of Racing Commissioners
International (ARCI).
ARCI is a
nonprofit trade association comprised of governmental regulators of horse and
greyhound racing in North America. The Len Foote Award is presented each year
to an executive director in recognition of exemplary service and contribution
to racing integrity. Peers select the award recipient.
“The Public
Protection Cabinet (PPC) congratulates Marc on this outstanding recognition,”
said PPC Secretary David A. Dickerson. “He serves Kentucky and the sport of horse
racing with integrity, professionalism and fairness. This is a well-deserved
acknowledgement.”
First
awarded in the early 1990s, this is the second time an executive director from
Kentucky has received this award. Former
KHRC Executive Director Lisa E. Underwood, who died last December, received the
award in 2009.
Gov. Matt
Bevin appointed Guilfoil as executive director of the KHRC in January of 2016.
Guilfoil began his career at the racing commission in 1988, having served in a
number of roles including deputy executive director and director of racing.
As a 1987
graduate of the University of Kentucky, Guilfoil received his B.S. in
Agriculture with an
emphasis in Communications. Guilfoil is also a certified Thoroughbred,
Standardbred, and Quarter
horse steward with the University of Louisville Judges Accreditation Program
and the United
States Trotting Association Officials School.
