May is Mental Health Awareness Month

During Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to remind state employees about the FREE mental health resources available. This is also a time when we stand in solidarity with organizations across the U.S. fighting the stigma of mental health.

The Kentucky Employee Assistance Program (KEAP) provides confidential services to address stress, anxiety, depression and other work or personal related mental well-being issues from assessment to referral. Click here to learn more.

The Department of Employee Insurance has created a directory of telehealth resources available to all KEHP members giving employers one-on-one access to counselors and psychiatrists. Click here to learn more.

Public Service Recognition Week, May 3-9

Since 1985, the first week of May has been designated as a time to honor the men and women who serve our nation as federal, state, county and local government employees.

When we consider our current challenges in the fight against coronavirus, the importance of public service is quite clear. In Kentucky, agencies have been encouraged to explore "virtual" ways to recognize public service workers, while practicing social distancing. Here are a few ways we are recognizing state employees:

  • During Public Service Recognition Week, Gov. Beshear and Personnel Cabinet Secretary Whethers are among those honoring our public service professionals for their hard to work serve fellow Kentuckians, especially during these unprecedented times. Click here to see video from Gov. Beshear.

  • Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW) is also a time when students across Kentucky are invited to submit poster art honoring public service workers. This year's theme is "Making a Difference." Click here to view 2020 submissions.

  • The Personnel Cabinet interviewed the longest serving Executive branch employee of 58 years, Mr. David Whitehouse from the Dept. of Revenue. Click here to read the Q&A where he shares his beginnings in state government, proudest moments and words of wisdom.

  • Click here to access the PSRW Toolkit for digital resources and ways to celebrate while social distancing.
