Eagle Scout Christopher Portman of Fairdale Honored

Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13) honored Christopher, a member of Troop 0685, during  a Metro Council meeting.  He started in Boy Scouts at the age of 11 in 5th Grade learning about outdoor survival skills and life resources. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout by earning the necessary 21 merit badges one month before his 16th birthday.  Most scouts earn this by their 18th birthday.  His special Eagle Scout Project was completing a 16’ scenic and safe walking bridge in Waverly Park.

Christopher, a student at Male High School, began in the traditional programs at Carter Traditional Elementary and Johnson Traditional Middle School where he received recognition for perfect attendance in all three years and he continues to maintain that perfect attendance at Male.  He also plays the tuba in the marching band.

The Graffiti Abatement Coalition

March 28 Survey

They will be holding its first Annual Graffiti Vandalism Survey for the Louisville Metro Area on March 28th. The Annual Graffiti Vandalism Survey is the most important tool for understanding how much of a problem graffiti-vandalism truly is for the city of Louisville. The information from this survey will allow the City of Metro Louisville to:

  • Properly apply funding to the areas most affected
  • Prepare for the Derby Blitz (cleaning up the city before Derby)
  • Receive state and federal grant money for handling the problem (HUD grants etc.)

Volunteers will be given instructions, a survey instrument and a route map and will be asked to walk or drive the route, recording each instance of graffiti that they see. Routes usually take two hours to complete. Meeting locations will be distributed as soon as they become available. There will be meet-ups at 9 am, 1 pm and 3:30 on both March 28. For more information or to volunteer go to www.graffitiabatementlouisville.com
