District 25 Update - Councilman David Yates

Louisville Metro Snow Map

snowmap

"In response to some confusion over whether and when certain areas of the city were salted and or plowed, Metro Technology has prepared a very short video that explains how to get the most out of our online Snow Status Map.

The map offers a real time history of only completed activities for each snow route for the current weather event. If crews that are sent out are still working on salting/plowing the snow the map will not update until the entire route is completed. The entire route, not each individual street will be updated when completed.

A route where plowing or salting is only 90 percent complete will Not be color coded for that activity until the remaining the entire route is Complete. The link below will take you to the video showing how to use the map most effectively." - Mr. Harold Adams

Our almost 300 Men and Women on the Snow Team have worked diligently in shifts since Sunday night combating the largest single snow fall since the late 90's. The Snow Team uses 160 pieces of equipment to clear 1,362 miles of road in Louisville. The total two-lane miles covered by crews on designated snow routes equals 2,721.

Louisville's snow routes focus on major roads, school and TARC bus routes, arteries to local employers and hospital and emergency routes.

Kroger Plans "Marketplace" Store in old Kmart Location

kmart

Kroger plans to open its biggest store in Louisville in the former Kmart building at 4915 Dixie Highway, Kroger spokesman Tim McGurk said.

Pending government approvals, the store would be Kroger's first “marketplace” location in Louisville – a megastore that sells general merchandise like clothing, kitchen goods and housewares, McGurk said.

“It's a whole another level of non-food type products,” he said.

Kroger “marketplace” stores are about 125,000 square feet – whereas a typical new Kroger is only 80,000 to 90,000 square feet, McGurk said. The nearest Kroger marketplace is in Shelbyville, and there are two in Lexington, he said.

Keep South Louisville Clean!

Councilman Yates and Southwest Louisville residents take pride in their Neighborhoods and community!

brightside clean up

The cold of the winter months keep a lot of us inside and keep us from picking up trash and litter that occasionally fall from our or our neighbor's trash cans. Sometimes the litter comes from careless drivers that do not value or take pride in our environment. Whatever the reason, litter and trash is a problem; it is aesthetically unappealing, it is a danger to wildlife and toxic to our vegetation. We all must pitch in to help keep our community a clean and healthy place live and work.

Every Spring and Fall Brightside hosts a clean-up weekend throughout Louisville Metro. Councilman Yates and the Southwest Metro Councilmembers host different locations to pick up the trash as they help you clean up our community. As Spring rolls around we will be seeking volunteers wishing to join us in our efforts to help clean District 25.  If you or your organization is interested in helping clean up our community please contact Brian.Boles@louisvilleky.gov and he will be sure to keep you informed on dates and ways you can help make a difference.

Click Here to learn more about how you can get free supplies to help clean up your neighborhood!

If you see trash near your home, neighborhood or school make a conscious effort to help everyone in our area by throwing it away!

Thank you to all of those whom already have taken these words to heart!

March is National Colon Cancer Awareness Month

colon cancer

March is National Colon Cancer Awareness Month, and March 6 is Dress in Blue Day. Join the statewide campaign to raise awareness about the importance of colon cancer screenings, wear blue, and encourage those around you to get screened!

Here are 5 steps you can take to fight colon cancer in March:

  1. Raise awareness! Wear blue on March 6 and tell people why. Share information about prevention from ColonCancerPreventionProject.org. Hang awareness signs in your office’s bathrooms stalls. And end the day at the Bottoms Up Bash at the Mellwood Arts Center
  2. Talk with your family about any family history of polyps or colon cancer.
  3. Talk with your doctor about the right time for you to be screened, and the test that’s right for you. Colon cancer can be prevented with screenings. All Kentuckians age 50 and older should get regular colon cancer checks. People with a personal or family history of colon cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, or who are experiencing symptoms are considered “high risk” should talk with their doctors about having earlier or more frequent tests.
  4. If it’s time for you to get screened – schedule the screening! Make March the month you check it off your list.
  5. Volunteer for the cause. Contact the Colon Cancer Prevention Project at (502) 290-0288 or info@c2p2ky.org to learn about volunteer opportunities in our area.
