For the 12th Annual Black History Month Program, each district will recognize an outstanding member of the community for an award. This year’s program will continue with the theme of “Reaffirming
Our Diverse Culture” and the nominee should: display outstanding leadership; be personally involved in making meaningful and lasting
contributions to the community; be actively interested in the civic, cultural, social and
moral welfare of the community; and committed to service to others in terms of knowledge,
attitudes, values, skills or mutual understanding and cooperation.
We need your help and request nominations from our readers. Submit your honoree’s name, mailing
address, contact telephone number and a “brief bio” to our office. Please email this information to Liz Kennedy at liz.kennedy@louisvilleky.gov by the close of business on Monday, February 9th.
 Mark your calendars for our first District Dialogue of 2015! Our featured speaker will be Bennett Knox, who will provide materials on Jefferson Memorial Forest, discuss the progress on their master plan and present information on the South Points Scenic Area Initiative. Please join us and learn about the many activities and programs available at the Forest for you to enjoy. As usual, representatives from Codes & Regulations, MSD and LMPD will be in attendance to address any questions or concerns along with staff from Congressman Yarmuth's office.

The participating museums along Museum Row are the Frazier History Museum, Muhammad Ali Center, Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory, and KentuckyShow!. Normal ticket prices for these attractions range from $9-13, so this is a great opportunity to take advantage of our downtown museums. Along with the $5 admission is also access to the ongoing exhibits that are open at each museum, including: Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft: Simone Leigh (February 7 – April 5, 2015), Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory: Stealing Base: Cuba at Bat (now – mid June 2015), Muhammad Ali Center: Americans Who Tell The Truth (open through May 2015) and Ali Tribute (open through February 28, 2015). To take advantage of the offer, guests must show proof of residency in Kentucky or Indiana, such as a driver’s license or alternate ID while purchasing tickets. The special offer cannot be combined with other discounts and does not apply to special tours or events.
 Louisville Metro Meals on Wheel’s recipients are getting handmade Valentine’s Day cards created by youth volunteers from across the country. DoSomething.org, the largest organization for young people and social change, has once again teamed up with AARP Foundation’s Mentor Up and the Meals On Wheels Association of America for the second annual Love Letters campaign.
The popular campaign, encouraging young people to create handmade Valentine’s Day cards to lift the spirits of older adults this holiday season, runs through February 15, 2015 and cards will be included in meal deliveries to Meals on Wheels clients in Louisville and across the country. Young people who sign up at DoSomething.org/loveletters and report back with a photo will be eligible to win a $10,000 scholarship.

Bring them to the forest for a romantic candlelit hike that ends with a
beautiful view of the lights of Louisville. The hike's destination is the
Forest's beautiful Manor House, where you'll be greeted by a roaring fire, hot
beverages and desserts provided by local bakeries. Reservations must be made

couple. There will be hikes on both Friday, February 13th and Saturday,
February 14th from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is returning to Sun
Valley Community Center (6505 Bethany Lane) for another year to help area
residents prepare their annual tax returns. The program is available to anyone
who makes less than $53,000 per year or is eligible for the Earned Income Tax
Credit. Services are available during the following hours:
Tuesdays & Thursdays: 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Wednesdays & Fridays: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Saturdays: 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

This four-week workshop will help with employability skills, successful job search, finding the right job and keeping it. After completing the workshop, participants will be provided weekly job search assistance and ongoing support after employment for at least 90 days from a career coach with Jewish Family and Career Services. Affair 2015 until April 30, 2015. Repair Affair is
for small repairs that improve the safety, security, and weather efficiency of
the home and not for decorating or remodeling. We do not guarantee assistance to everyone who applies. There is no
cost to apply, but there are several eligibility requirements for Repair Affair:
To qualify you must:

60 years of age or older or certified disabled;
- Own
and reside in a single-family home;
- Qualify
as low income

 Serving on a board or commission is a great way to utilize your
talents. We hope you will consider volunteering your time with us and encourage
you to browse the openings regularly for opportunities that would best utilize
your experience and knowledge. We have approximately 100 boards and
commissions with many areas of interest. It is important that these boards have adequate representation from all
areas of town, including District 12 and Southwest Louisville, as they are responsible
for evaluating many important decisions that impact our city and its citizens.
