Rebuilding For A Brighter Future

The Tavern is one of Old Louisville's cherished restaurants, with great family history. The Tavern actually started out as a restaurant in the back of a AMP Grocery Store with the original name of the Restaurant being the "Smoker".

The Restaurant "Smoker" was a place where people could stop in  and enjoy a good meal and a cold drink before or after their train ride near an Old Railroad Corridor.

Unfortunately in 1937, there was the "great flood" and the building took on 4 feet of water, damaging the restaurant in its entirety. After the flood, the building had to be completely remodeled and was officially renamed "The Tavern".

The Tavern is known for its hand pattied Burgers, hand cut fries, as well as their hand battered portobello mushroom fries. In 2013, Dan Borch and his business partner Scott Lukemire purchased the Tavern from its original owners, both Dan Borch and Scott Lukemire are also the proud owners of "Burger Boys" as well.

On July 22nd of this year, The Tavern was set on fire by a local arsonist who was quickly apprehended due to great work by the LFD Arson Unit and some great citizen input from the neighborhood associations.. The fire destroyed most of the building and its unique attributes. Fortunately, with great support from our community, the Tavern has started their plans for a complete remodel. With the exception of the walls and half of the roof, everything will need to be replaced and updated.

The restoration will begin in just a few short weeks and owners are hoping for a Grand Reopening by early to mid March. Owners Dan Borch and Scott Lukemire would like to thank the community for their continued support, prayers, and positive words during this time.

A Grand Opening celebration will be held upon the completion of the project, and they hope to see all of their Old Louisville family in attendance.
