A New Look, A New Day

Ermin’s Bakery and Café is family owned and operated by Louisville natives Debby and Bob Haynes since Dec. 15, 1997. The Haynes’ bought Ermin’s Bakery & Café from two Bosnian cousins (both whom were named Ermin).

Ermin Cicic founded Ermin’s Bakery in 1993 after he arrived in this country from war-torn Bosnia. He brought with him the experience of his father, and his grandfather, who also come from a long-line of bakers.

Since then Ermin’s has grown to 2 locations in the downtown Louisville area. The Haynes family has continued to produce the traditional European style breads introduced originally by the Bosnian Ermin’s cousins.

Unfortunately, a few month's back Ermin's went through a hard time when a emergency vehicle ran into the front of the building at excessive speed where Ermin's is located. However, they have pulled through, repaired the building, and are now up and running like new again.

So if you are in the area, why don't you stop in, have a look at whats new, and a taste of whats great at Ermin's Bakery & Cafe located at 1201 South 1st Street in Old Louisville.

LMPD & UofL Community Conversation

vhklgu

On this past Tuesday December 9th, the Louisville Metro Police Department along with experts from the University of Louisville came together to host a community conversation. This gathering allowed the public an opportunity to voice their opinions, concerns and feelings about what's happening in our city as well as Ferguson Missouri.

Constituents from all over Louisville filled the Urban League room to the point where people were forced to stand along the walls. A around of applauds goes out to all that attended this community conversation as it was a great success. From this conversation let us be hopeful about the growth of our city and use this as the first step towards making our city a better Louisville.

Please let us know how you feel regarding this issue by calling our office at 502-574-1106 or by emailing me at david.james@louisvilleky.gov.

Let's Keep The Conversations Going!

2015 New Yard Waste Bags & Labels

gfujr

As Louisville continues the transition away from regular plastic bags for yard waste disposal, our Solid Waste division is offering free paper yard waste bags along with labels for reusable yard waste containers during the balance of the fall leaf season.

All residents are also invited to pick up a sample bag and flyer at one of the locations below. Those opting for reusable containers are also invited to pick up free labels to place on those containers that will help collection crews identify yard waste.

The flyer will remind residents of the options for compliance, including mulch mowing—what we call Love ‘Em and Leave ‘Em—reusable containers, paper yard waste bags and compostable plastic. Bags will be available until further notice at the following locations:

Bag and label pick up sites:

595 Hubbards Lane Recycling Center

7201 Dixie Highway Recycling Center

7219 Outer Loop Recycling Center

LAHTF HomeBUYERS Program

yuit

Created by the National Affordable Housing Act of 1990, the HOME Investment Partnerships (“HOME”) Program provides funding for various types of affordable housing production and rehabilitation. HOME is the largest federal block grant program designed exclusively to create affordable housing for low-income households. Louisville Affordable Housing Trust Fund received a $1 million HOME award from Louisville Metro Government in FY 2013-14 under the federally-funded HOME Program.

The Louisville Affordable Housing Trust Fund was established by a bipartisan act of Metro Council in 2008 as an initiative for Metro Council to invest public funds in the kind of housing our community needs: for people on fixed incomes like seniors and people with serious disabilities; for young families starting out; for veterans; and for working people whose wages are not enough to live in Metro Louisville.

The LAHTF HOMEbuyer Program helps developers make high-quality homeownership affordable to low-income people by providing assistance with development costs by means of a forgivable loan to the developer to cover the difference between development costs and appraisal. The program can also provide forgivable loans to home-buyers for down payments and closing costs.

Applicants should submit proposals demonstrating their capacity to both develop affordable single family homes and to assist interested low-income first-time home-buyers in housing counseling and qualifying for first mortgage loans.

LAHTF plans to assist 20-30 low-income first-time home-buyers with this program. Interested developer applicants can find the application, guidelines and details at www.louisvilleahtf.org.
