Clifton Welcomes Electric Goat to Garden

Electric Goat
Last Thursday, July 28th, the Billy Goat Hill Community Garden welcomed “The Electric Goat” to their pasture during a press conference with me, Mayor Fischer, Mercy Sacred Heart Village Representatives, Hustler Equipment and So. Indiana Equipment representatives.  The Electric Goat is the latest in green technology; it’s clean, quiet and the first all electric zero turn lawn mower to be used in Louisville.  The board members of the Billy Goat Hill Community Garden (BGHCG) approached me several months ago requesting Neighborhood Development Funds (NDF) to purchase a riding lawn mower for the garden and Mercy Sacred Heart Village.  I worked with APCD and BGHCG folks to come up with a greener solution. Phase two is to purchase a small solar panel to charge the battery and REALLY be green!  To check out the MetroTV video of the press conference please click here.

New Owners Take Control of Whiskey Row Buildings

whiskey row
An investment group planning a multi-million dollar renovation of Main Street’s historic Whiskey Row has officially taken ownership of the properties.  The group, led by Steve Wilson and Laura Lee Brown, closed last Friday, July 29th, on the purchase of these
buildings that it plans to renovate into a mixed-use development.
The group purchased four buildings from former owner Todd Blue. Blue donated a fifth building to the Louisville Downtown Development Corporation which, in turn, contributed it to the investment group.  The investment group, which was created by the Downtown Development Corp. and includes the Brown-Forman Corp and several civic-minded partners who wish to remain anonymous, paid $4.85 million for the properties. The city has agreed to help stabilize the decaying buildings by investing $100,000 for every $1 million invested by the investment group, up to $1.5 million.  “The planning has already begun and actual work on the stabilization will start soon,” Wilson said.

From Neighborhood Planning Preservation

It is with the deepest and most sincere sorrow that we acknowledge the passing of Ann Hassett, the first Director of Louisville’s Historic Landmarks and Preservation Districts Commission.   Long after she left metro government and up to the very end, she was a staunch preservationist and a worthy partner in the many battles to preserve Louisville’s historic treasures.  An avid rower, Ann was a woman of many interests--possessing a most positive and indomitable spirit.  We have lost a cherished friend.  Preservation has lost a champion.
