As Louisville continues the transition away from regular plastic bags for yard waste disposal, our Solid Waste division is offering free paper yard waste bags along with labels for reusable yard waste containers during the balance of the fall leaf season.
All residents are also invited to pick up a sample bag and flyer at one of the locations below. Those opting for reusable containers are also invited to pick up free labels to place on those containers that will help collection crews identify yard waste. Leaf drop-off is also available through December 6 as listed separately below.
This will give everyone a chance to sample the strength and quality of the paper bags in advance of the January 1, 2015 start of enforcement of the regulation.
The flyer will remind residents of the options for compliance, including mulch mowing—what we call Love ‘Em and Leave ‘Em—reusable containers, paper yard waste bags and compostable plastic.
Bag and label pick up sites:
- 595 Hubbards Lane Recycling Center
- 7201 Dixie Highway Recycling Center
- 7219 Outer Loop Recycling Center
- 600 Meriwether Ave. Solid Waste Office

The Louisville Metro Snow Team is made
up nearly 300 employees from four agencies - Metro Public
Works, Solid Waste Management Services, Metro Parks and Codes and
Regulations. The Snow Team uses 160 pieces of equipment to clear 1,362
miles of road in Louisville. The total two-lane miles covered by crews on
designated snow routes equals 2,721.
Louisville's snow routes focus on
major roads, school and TARC bus routes, arteries to local employers and
hospital and emergency routes.
As a part of an ongoing agreement
with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, city crews will treat and clear most
state roads and highways. That equals about 315 miles of roads in Louisville,
including roads such as Shelbyville Road, Beulah Church Road and Dixie Highway.
The city's salt storage facilities are
well-stocked and ready to fight winter weather. Before the season's first
snowflake, the city had 35,000 tons of salt available, including 15,000 tons on
hand at salt domes and storage facilities as well as 20,000 tons stored
underground for emergency reserve.
During a winter weather event, you can
track the progress of snow removal using and interactive map that is constantly
updated with the latest info. It's a great tool to use before hitting the
roadways when they are in poor condition.

 The Christmas
Season is upon us!! Please keep your valuables safe by locking your cars and

-
EMERGENCY - 911
- NON
EMERGENCY - 502-574-2111
- TIPS LINE - 502-574-LMPD

- 3RD DIVISION - 502-574-2135

REPORTING
UNIT - 502-574-4661 EXT 3
Crime Prevention Tips:
- Make it a
habit of checking doors and windows to see if they are secure or locked.
The best lock that money can buy will only work if it is activated or
locked.
- Consider the
structural integrity of the locks. Are they still able to do what they are
intended to do? A sliding glass or patio door lock may need additional
security.
- When you are
away from your home, you should leave lights on.
- Get involved
in a neighborhood watch or, at least, watch out for each other. Find
someone that you know and trust on your street to help look out for your
home and property and vice versa. Crime prevention is a community effort.
- Never leave
your vehicles unlocked.
- Never leave
anything of value left visible within your automobile.
- Never assume
that because your car is locked your valuables are safe. Thieves break
windows. It only takes a thief 10 seconds for a thief to take your
property from an unlocked vehicle, and 15 seconds from a locked one.
Neighborhood Watch:
Neighborhood Watch - This program is
a partnership between LMPD and the community to prevent crime.
Neighborhood watches empower our citizens to work together to help reduce crime
as well as watch for and report unusual activity around residences and
businesses. If
interested in creating a neighborhood watch contact Sgt Kelly Lee at Kelly.lee@louisvilleky.gov
