COUNCIL NARROWLY PASSES

LG&E FEE INCREASE BY A 12-10 MARGIN

ACKERSON VOTED AGAINST THE FEE INCREASE

The Metro Council passed the LG&E Franchise Fee increase by a vote of 12-10.  The measure was introduced by Republican Kelly Downard and Council President Jim King.

In his comments opposing the fee increase, Councilman Brent Ackerson had stated the fee is a de facto tax, that it couldn’t be evenly applied, and would ultimately cost his constituents an unnecessary increase in their utility bills.  He was quoted as saying, “Any fee is the wrong thing to do.”

Joining Councilman Ackerson voting against the fee increase were Democrats David Yates and Attica Scott, and seven others.

Below are links to stories in the media covering last night’s vote.

ANNEXATION NEWS FROM THE COUNCIL MEETING

Also on last night's Council agenda were two items, #36 and #37, which concerned how annexation matters may proceed in Louisville Metro.

Residential annexations were covered in Item #36.  Here is a link to the ordinance: https://louisville.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=1695192&GUID=8DBF7787-9C77-472E-BE04-4484B334515C

Industrial annexations were covered in a separate ordinance, Item #37.  Here is a link to that ordinance: https://louisville.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=1695193&GUID=991ED78B-673E-47BA-BC9A-318ADBC98EC0

Both ordinances require the areas to be annexed to be contiguous to the city by which they are being annexed.  There are separate provisions for residential and industrial areas based on the state statutes which govern such matters.  These statutes are codified in KRS Section 81A.  You can find these at www.lrc.ky.gov

Pee Wee Park

Work has begun in earnest on planned improvements for Pee Wee Park on Klondike Lane.  After hearing about the need for an upgrade while walking the area and in three meetings with area residents, Councilman Brent Ackerson committed 26th District Neighborhood Development Funds to the park for the construction of a new entrance and parking lot, in addition to a walking path around the perimeter, and other improvements, enhancing the quality of life for the Klondike Lane area.  Stop by and watch the progress but be careful of the ongoing work and machinery.

Bardstown Road / Mural

THE BARDSTOWN ROAD / WATTERSON EXPRESSWAY MURAL PROJECT GETS UNDERWAY  -- Councilman Ackerson is very happy to report we are finally getting the Bardstown Road Mural off the drawing board and onto the walls of the Watterson Expressway underpass.  Thanks to the tenacious commitment of the Bon Air Neighborhood Association and working with Louisville Metro's Office of Economic Growth and Innovation, the project has begun with a thorough and proper cleaning of the walls and the application of an underlayment seal.  We are very thankful for all who have been involved in this work and look forward to its completion this summer.  If you are a passenger with another person driving, be sure to look over and keep track of the ongoing work.
