Summer Fun and Safety Go Together
Many of us look at Memorial Day as the official kick off of summer fun. We're fortunate to have a city that offers so many great (and often free) ways to take full advantage of summer's fun. As you and your family and friends prepare to enjoy our fabulous parks system, or take part in outdoor activities and events, including swimming, boating or just getting out for a hike please keep safety in mind. There are lots of good safety resources available online, at your library, from your local school or physician--which I encourage you to seek out--but here are a few of my personal favorite tips and reminders to keep in mind.
- Wear your sun screen!
- Keep a close watch on children anytime you're near water. If groups are gathering for water fun, have a designated person to serve as kid monitor (take turns as needed.)
- Never leave kids or pets inside a car, even for just a few minutes.
- \Wear comfortable shoes.
