10th Annual Forest Fest Bluegrass Festival – May 17 at Jefferson Memorial Forest
A spectacular day of Bluegrass music, food, craft vendors and youth activities in a scenic environment awaits those who visit Jefferson Memorial Forest’s tenth annual Forest Fest on Saturday, May 17.

Hershey’s Track & Field Games Registration Underway through Metro Parks & Recreation
Kids between the ages of 9 and 14 who love to run, jump and throw are invited to sign up for the Hershey’s Track & Field Games, to be held at 6 p.m. on May 22 at Fern Creek Traditional High School Football Stadium, 9115 Fern Creek Road, Louisville KY.

Metro Parks Hosting “Pitch, Hit & Run”™ Competition – May 10
Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation will host Pitch, Hit and Run™, the official youth skills competition of Major League Baseball®, presented by Scotts®. This grassroots program is designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to compete, free of charge, in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball/softball skills.

2014 Metro Parks Junior Golf Tour Underway
Younger golfers looking to gain competitive and fun golfing experience in tournament play are invited to participate in the annual Metro Parks Junior Golf Tour.

Details: We are still accepting registrations for summer camps.  All camps are first come, first serve and are filling up fast! Learn more about summer camp offerings here.

Family Weekend at Metro Parks Golf courses
Location: Any Metro Parks Golf Course
Date: May 24, 25 & 26
Time: After 4:30 pm
Details: A family of up to four may play 9 holes, with cart, after 4:30 p.m. at any metro parks course for only $20! Memorial Day weekend (Saturday-Monday).

Flag Football!
Location: Thurman Hutchins Park
Details: Metro Parks Athletics has a few spots left for the summer flag football leagues.  To register for an Athletic League, please fill out the Online Registration Form.  Payment can be made by credit card over the phone. You may pay by cash or check at the Athletics Office located at the Louisville Tennis Center (in Joe Creason Park).

Growing Heirloom Tomatoes
Location: Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing

The Riverside Garden Club invites you to come to a presentation by Terry Gibson from Thieneman's Greenhouses on "Growing Heirloom Tomatoes" on Saturday, May 17 @ 10:00 am in the Riverside Visitors Center. With over 15 years of experience working with heirloom tomatoes, Mr. Gibson has much to share with those who want to experience success growing their own heirloom tomatoes.
This event is FREE and open to the public.

Trail Team Park Project Day at Waverly Park
Location: Jefferson Memorial Forest
Date:  May 17
Time: 9:00 am
Details: Trail Team and KYMBA volunteers come together to improve and maintain the combined hiking and biking trails at Waverly.  Activities vary, but may include use of hand tools to cut overhanging limbs and encroaching shrubs, trail structure repair or addressing erosion issues.  Closed-toe shoes are required.  Activities are suitable for ages 14 and up, with parental supervision required until age 18.  Meet at the playground parking lot in Waverly Park.

Land Steward Project Days
Location: Jefferson Memorial Forest
Date: Wednesdays, May 21 and 28
Time: 9:00 am
Details: Help preserve the natural ecosystem within the Natural Areas park system.  Activities may include clipping invasive plants, weeding native gardens, mulching, or brush removal.  Closed-toe shoes required.  Activities are suitable for ages 14 and up, with parental supervision required until age 18.  Location varies.

Night Climbing
Location: Jefferson Memorial Forest
Date:  May 24
Time: 7:00 PM to 10:00PM
Details: Challenge yourself on our 52 foot climbing tower…in the dark! Learn basic climbing and belaying techniques and gain self-esteem, confidence and problem-solving skills while tackling this “high-altitude” obstacle course at night! This program is for ages 10 and up. (A parent or legal guardian must accompany any participant under the age of 18.) Please wear tennis shoes and long pants or shorts (with inseam greater than 5 inches.) Bring your headlamp! Program will meet in the Horine Section of Jefferson Memorial Forest. All participants must pre-register and pre-pay before day of course through the Welcome Center (no registrations day of course.)

Free Guided Hike
Location: Jefferson Memorial Forest
Date: May 31
Time: 9:00 am
Siltstone Trail: Scott’s Gap to Bearcamp Rd and back, 7.4 miles (strenuous)
Hike the western half of the Siltstone Trail with the Volunteer Naturalists.  Bring plenty of water and a lunch, as we’ll be stopping at Bearcamp Road to eat before heading back to the parking area.  Meet at Scott’s Gap parking lot.
