Retired and Senior Volunteers Honored for Service in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, KY (March 27, 2014) – Louisville Metro’s RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) will host their annual recognition event on Friday, March 28, from 12 Noon to 3 p.m. at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage at 1701 W. Muhammad Ali Boulevard, Louisville, KY 40203.

The event will honor the April 2013 - March 2014 work of over 550 RSVP volunteers (ages 55-101) who served at nearly 60 public service and non-profit locations. A special feature will be the recognition of 84 individuals who have reached volunteer service milestones of 5 to 30 years. All active RSVP volunteers and each site’s RSVP representative are invited to attend. Interested general public are welcome as guests with $35.00 per person with reservation paid in advance.

RSVP offers persons age 55 and over the opportunity to serve their community in a variety of volunteer assignments as part of the city’s Department of Community Services and Revitalization, Outreach & Advocacy programs. RSVP members served at agencies from “A to Z” - from the American Red Cross, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Kentucky, Dare to Care & Peace Presbyterian Kid’s Cafe, JCPS Talent Center, Louisville Metro Senior Nutrition, Kentucky Center for the Arts, Project Warm, the Schuhmann Social Services Center, 7 local Hospitals, several local Community Ministries, Telecare, Uspiritus to the Zoo … and many more!

Dawne Gee, news anchor with WAVE 3 T.V., will serve as mistress of ceremonies for the event and Virginia Peck, director of Community Services and Revitalization will present congratulatory remarks. Dick Brien, of the Carnegie Institute, will share “Golden Books” for life’s tips. There will also be a hat contest for men and women and 3G Productions will be providing music. Passport Health Plan is the event’s generous donating sponsor.

“This celebration is just a small token of the appreciation rightfully earned by RSVP volunteers. They generously serve year-round, giving over 70,000 hours (over $1.5 million in impact)! RSVP members also report that volunteering helps them stay sharper mentally and physically healthier. Those are definite win/win outcomes for this community!” says RSVP Director, Marian Gosling.
